Cooling appliances are safe when used as directed. Please read the user manual supplied with your product before first use, and keep these general guidelines in mind.

Electrical safety

• Plug portable air conditioners and other high-wattage appliances directly into a grounded wall outlet. Do not use extension cords or power strips unless the manual explicitly permits it.
• Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, and never modify the plug.
• Unplug appliances before cleaning, maintenance or moving them.

Placement and ventilation

• Operate units on a flat, stable surface with the clearance stated in the manual around intakes and exhausts.
• Keep exhaust hoses as short and straight as practical, and never vent into enclosed interior spaces.
• Keep curtains, bedding, papers and other materials away from air intakes.
• Use indoor-rated products indoors only; only products rated for outdoor use should be used outside.

Water and humidity

• Empty and clean evaporative-cooler tanks regularly, and do not let water stand in the tank for extended periods.
• Follow the drainage instructions for portable air conditioners; do not tip a running unit.
• Keep electrical components away from water. Never operate a unit that has been submerged or soaked until it has been inspected.

Children and pets

• Do not allow children to play with appliances, controls or remote controls, and keep small parts and batteries out of reach.
• Never insert fingers or objects through fan grilles.

Maintenance

• Clean or replace filters at the interval stated in the manual — clogged filters reduce performance and stress the motor.
• Have repairs performed only by qualified service personnel; unauthorized repair voids the warranty and may create hazards.
